Call for Guest Professor
Kyushu University Department of Architecture and Urban Design

Kyushu University Department of Architecture and Urban Design invites application for 4 and a half year guest professor position beginning in September 2008 and ending in March 2013. We seek candidates who are vitally interested in teaching “Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism in Asia” at advanced level in Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies. Salary will be based on the regulation of Kyushu University, and the employment contract will be renewed every fiscal year.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach the Doctor Course as well as Master Program in Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism in charge of lectures on “Theory of Asian Sustainable Urban Systems” and “Theory of Sustainable Urban Environmental Policy” in Master Program, and “Asian Sustainable Urban Systems” in Doctor Course. The successful candidate is expected to promote research projects, to support researches in Doctor and Master Course, and to provide service to the departments and university.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. or Doctor Degree in Engineering, Planning, Architecture or related field is preferred. A teaching ability in English or Japanese language is required. Age under 60 is preferred. The successful candidate will be required to be resident in Japan for commuting. Final determination will be based on the successful review of the applications, or may possibly be based on the successful interview.

Preferences: Teaching or research experience relative to the field of sustainable architecture and urbanism is preferred. Or architectural design or urban planning experience is preferred. Also preferred are a background working in architecture or urban planning and familiarity with the policies, theories and technologies on sustainable architecture and urbanism.

1) Curriculum vitae including full name, birth date, mailing address, phone/fax number, e-mail address, education career, job career, teaching career, research experiences, professional activities, awards, doctor degree dissertation title and date with a photograph of face.
2) A list of journal papers, publications, proceedings, pragmatic architectural design and urban planning works.
3) A copy of each of 5 selected papers published in journals
4) Description of research and teaching experiences, financial aids and social activities written within 1,000 words in English or within 2,000 words in Japanese.
5) Description of teaching and research plan on Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism at Kyushu University written within 1,000 words in English or within 2,000 words in Japanese.
6) A recommendation letter
7) A list of two reference persons (full name, affiliation and title, contact address, e-mail address, phone number) who we will make contact with.
